Thankyou for the lovely photo, G.W. I shall certainly not be able to take in that amazing view for myself.

Some inspiring pictures :P

Quick question for all of the above, were these taken handheld, or longer exposures with the camera on tripods / beanbag etc?

Posted

GW, some of mine were long exposures with tripod and some hand held … just depended on what I was expecting and where we were at the time. I did a few on tripod in the vehicle which worked quite well when getting out of the vehicle wasn't an option. I prefer using a tripod for sunrise and sunset whenever I can.

Posted

G.W., mine are all hand held, I can't compete with some of the experts on here! I do my best, and it suits me. I must add

that my son is an expert photographer, he does some commercial work, but I know that he doesn't get it from me! I just

like having a record of my trips, and if some photos are reasonable, then I am happy. I admire the sharpness of the

photos of some of ST's contributers, and if it makes me a bit shy about my own, I just get over it!

I should just tell you Jan that I get as much pleasure out of your photos as I do out of anyone's. You probably love the scenes you photograph and have more attachment to them than anyone so keep posting.

My first thought was that no matter how beautiful these pictures would be, they could never do the real thing justice. After viewing some of these photos - I think that they've come pretty close! I particularly like Twaffle's misty topi and Jan's sihoueletted ostriches - absolutely striking images!

PT123, thank you.

Wow Twaffle that misty sunrise...

Jochen, to tell the truth I was a bit peeved with it at the time as we had gone out especially early to find our spot with giraffe and tree for a true Mara sunrise, but not to be. We did see an aardwolf on the way which was a first. Still, it turned out all right in the end.

Very atmospheric: it makes you want to wrap up in a fleece...

Thank's Twaffle, you are probably right, there. I've been to some of the locations many times, and still keep going back!

Every day in Africa is different from the last, and I keep wanting to capture both animals and friends to look at when I get

home. I'm doing so now as I'm at my laptop, as you may have seen on my facebook page.
