Fantastic additions everyone. B&W really helps to convey atmosphere and mood perhaps more so than colour, at least IMHO. Matt.

Head-on!

I love being able to get this low perspective even though it's tough to do from a vehicle.

Best is to be on foot, but I'd rather a white rhino on foot than a blackie! :D

terrific photos @africaaddict

I particularly liked 'skipping water' and the lion/buffalo shots in water.

First post here after several friends said I should join.

I found the dead trees poking out of the waters of Lake Kariba quite mesmerising and couldn't resist the temptation to get a bit arty.

High & low key versions of the same image

MAC, talk us through your post processing if you have time? Hope these images are inspiring other members to have a go at converting some colour pics. Matt.

@@Game Warden - I'm just chuffed that you ask me to talk about BW editing ....... having just learnt how to do it very recently.

Anyway, this is what I do ........... I use LightRoom (sorry, I'm illiterate wrt Photoshop - but, I ought to learn it)

1.) Basic sharpening as you need to for any RAW image

2.) Next I de-saturate all the colors to make it a BW image. Then I play around with the hue and Luminance sliders to see how it looks

3.) work with Exposure; Contrast sliders ....... if need be

For the giraffe feeding image above - I wanted to try something different - so, I flipped it around to make it look like the pic is taken from the air (also, blurred the edges)

Hope that helps. I'm just learning how to do BW processing - so, I'm not suggesting that this is the right method.......... :)

This is Chobe

I quite like the 'old print' effect of this B&W rendition.
