Beautiful shots! I think the Fishing Owl is the winner for me. I’ll be very interested to see your thoughts on Corbett. I considered going there maybe 5 years ago but went with Ranthambhore instead because I convinced myself that it would be more likely that we would see Tigers

@lmSA84

I am sure @Soukous will have his own thoughts but for me I would go back to Corbett in a blink. It just looked and felt right.

It is hard to compare Corbett with Ranthambore.

Landscape wise they are very different and the wildlife viewing experience is also very different.

Ranthambore is a very popular park, partly because it is scenically beautiful, partly because it has a good record for tiger sightings but predominantly because of its location. It can be easily added into a cultural itinerary without deviating too far from the route.

In addition to the wildlife there is quite a lot to see and photograph culturally, which appeals to a lot of people.

Corbett is out on its own. It is not really on the way to or from anywhere. The park has a wide diversity of landscapes but there is not much in the vicinity by way of culture.

In both parks you will see tigers. They are the species that the majority of visitors come to see.

The downside is that 90+% of Indian visitors are only interested in seeing the tigers; it is an obsession. The sheer volume of them at most tiger sightings detracts significantly from the enjoyment. They are ill behaved, jostling for position and they never stop talking - loudly.

You can say that again. Even their fellow countrymen take issue with them. I don't normally 'suppress' a sighting but we once had a nice Tiger sitting and when our guide noted a convoy of is fellow citizens cruising along he suggested we look at anything but the cat. So we trained our binoculars on a pair of Jungle Crows on the other side of the track. Our visitors did not even slow down! Sadly it is happening in Africa too. "Have you seen lion?!

#113 Coppersmith Barbet (Megalaima haemacephala)

Corbett Tiger reserve, india. March 2018

Barbets were my nemesis in India. They stay right in the high canopy and present themselves as little more than a dark blob against the sky.
