Tdgraves big year 2019

Hi. No preconceptions this year, after I got it spectacularly wrong with 2018, which turned out to be my biggest year yet! Could be a very big year, as we are off to Sri Lanka next week, but then will be in the Kruger in September, when the migratory birds are not around, so anything is possible. Glad to be able to participate again in this fun and educational forum :D

The weather was relatively good on New Years' day, so we went out for a walk. Although we spotted a few different water fowl, most were far off and hopefully can be improved upon in the next 364 days, so I will start this year with just one, which was very close and extremely relaxed and on top of that, the sun broke through the clouds at the exact right moment...who could ask for more?

Welcome back to this absolutely superserious game. Beautiful Swans, I bet they will be among my first ten ones as well.

Good to see a start being made. Good wishes for a huge success in Sri Lanka.

This thread is lovely for the friendly chat that takes place. I feel I know everyone personally which is nice.

No doubts Sri Lanka will deliver an important amount of great looking birds, @Tdgraves. This upcoming February and March, we will be spoiled by many birds from different corners of the globe.

Sri Lanka should reward you with some excellent sights, I'm envious but looking forward to seeing the results. You should be off to a flyer!

As I have now finally finished my TR, I have started to process the Sri Lanka pictures, but it'll take a while!

We had a great trip. What a fabulous place!

I will go in date order as it is easier. Pretty much everything was new, apart from some waders and woolly-necked storks. We saw quite a few of the endemics as well. The first bird we saw was a kestrel and another unidentified raptor from the plane....
