Dave Williams

Excuse me Tony for hijacking your thread but our two birds are uncannily similar but there isn't anything like them in the guide book.

Mine was seen at Mlondozi Picnic site which is on a small rocky hill. Terrain fits the bill for Wailing but the description doesn't really match.

Stop Press! You have added a lot more photos in the last few minutes!! If our Cisticolas are identical as they appear they can't be Lyne's as it doesn't occur in Kruger.

I'm with you..they are not worth the bother and I won't be chasing them next time either:unsure:

@Dave Williams  if you check @Galana post he says there is a northern wailing aka Lyne’s and a southern wailing which is the SA version. So yours is possibly that bird. (Or possibly not..I could be convinced of anything I think. If @Galana suggested it was an Ostrich I might accept it :D)

I think they are pretty birds but too difficult to identify

Well it kind of does apart from the greyer not buff belly.

Eventually you hit the wall of there only being two Cisticola with grey bellies in RSA. It could be a Neddicky apart from the wing panel and Grey-backed is well out of range. It is not an Ostrich so the odds are on a Wailer.

Of course! I also managed the Pink-Breasted Lark in Selenkay - that was quite an easy one as well.

Sitting on a bush at the side of the track, not bothered by us at all, singing as loud as it can. A lovely bird to be Number 150 for Kenya

That's settled then.

Apart from Ostrich I really loved the Pygmy Falcon shots and the Red & Yellow Barbet. But I'd be happy with most of them.
