Love the starling sunset!

Some really nice close-ups as well.

Thanks Peter. It’s not Marievale, but the winter light makes it really magical.

Looks like I missed a walk in August. I was probably too busy thinking about packing. Anyway it was a (distant) lifer!! I had seen it a few times and dismissed it as a moorhen, but when someone else reported these at the same site, I took more notice the next time I saw them, lesson learnt.

Not quite into the EBC folder yet, but have only had one sighting of these all year, so may as well post now

No room? The Water Rail got there first!

  • 1 month later...

Have finally had a chance to process the Kenyan bird photos (although not the rest of them!!). I'll start with the lifers, although my eBird list clearly needs some work, as it suggested that a Cape Teal was a lifer. No time for that at present!!

These lead us a merry dance. It was virtually dark and they kept diving into the middle of the bushes. I also used lightroom denoise for the first time, out of necessity - it's amazing!

Modern software is indeed amazing. And one should not constrain to use it ... the noise itself is an artificial result of the sensor anyway.

I am justifying this EBC by stating that it was very dark due to the rain and it was our first sighting of the drive, so the camera wasn't set up properly yet (I know, schoolgirl error). It had caught a lapwing and landed on the other side of the vehicle from where I was and our arrival scared it off. This allowed a pair of tawnies come and steal the kill (to follow). Therefore I had no real chance...

A good selection from Kenya. No need to justify an EBC to us:)
