18. Oriental Pied Hornbill, Khao Yai

This is the third of five hornbill species in Khao Yai.

19. Austen's Brown Hornbill, Khao Yai

The fourth hornbill species I saw in the park, and a lifer for me. I dipped on the fifth species the Wrinkled Hornbill which would have been a lifer too. The brown hornbill is a "cooperative breeder" with the adult male engaging a few adult males and females to help feed the chick and female in the hole. I saw four of them taking turns feeding the chick and female.

20.  Long-tailed Broadbill, Khao Yai

A long search for this broadbill in Southeast Asia finally ended in the Khao Yai park canteen where this beautiful bird, nicknamed Elvis for obvious reasons once you see it, decided to build a nest on a thick cable.

That's it from Khao Yai. Not a very productive trip as I had also focused on mammals which I also didn't get anyway. I think my guide was a bit lacking but it was a last minute hire so I can't completely blame only him.

We're off to Sabah tomorrow for a 10-day trip and hopefully we'll have more and brighter birds to share.

Time to come over! not now. it's sizzling hot and horribly humid with UV at its highest.

Found a new bird from Khao Yai! the guide just ID-ed an unknown bulbul and it's a lifer for me.

One for the Bulbul king @xelas

21. Baker's Bulbul

Recently split from the grey-eyed bulbul, the Thai birds record committee has accepted it as a full species although IOC and Clements treat it as part of the Olive Bulbul family.

Herman just passed me his collection from his 3-day trip to Thailand, so here goes. He definitely saw more than I did as his guide was more hardworking.
