We found a pack of around 44 ,adults and pups in the Lower Zambezi Valley last September, they were feeding on a buffalo carcass ,the adults kept running back to the pups to feed them ,easily in the top 3 of my best ever sightings

@webbie44? That is extraordinary and would suggest several mothers.

Did your guide explain how this happened? Normally the alpha female woul not tolerate the competion although there are occasional exceptions. 

Really intriguing. 

 

Buffalo prey is rare too but with 44 dogs..........

Our guide from Potato Bush camp told us of a large pack that was about 30 mins drive from camp ,we got there just after the kill ,witnessed by another guide ,I imagine the buffalo could have been sick or injured ,a real treat to see such a large pack ,probably 50 50 between pups and adults, highly unlikely I will see a pack that size again ,but what an absolute treat 😀
