Canon 350D, 75-300 lens, ISO 800 or 1600 (First trip with digital rather than film - great to have the flexibility in the low light)

I think they can be adorable and still not pretty. Just look at that evil expression.

They don't look evil to me. I always think there's something sinister looking about cheetah. It's the orange eyes that freak me out.

These guys, on the other hand, I think are amazingly cute. Especially when you remember what they look like when they grow up

Yes, they are cute. When they're really young they're a bit wrinkly, but they go through a super cute phase before getting ugly.

Having said that, my mum has a real soft spot for hyena, even the grown up ones. I'm not sure I get it.

Having recently spent an hour or so walking accompanied by two adult hyena, my disposition towards them has improved dramatically!

I don't see any evil expressions from the wild dogs - it's a serious look, a look that says I've got to learn to survive. I think they look adorable. And the hyenas May not be pretty, but I find them handsome!

As we were leaving Ndutu on our way to Ngorongoro we spotted this Grant's Gazelle near the road with a new born foal (calf/cub/pup? )

Salim, our guide estimated that the young 'un was no more than 15 minutes old.

we watched it wobble around and eventually find its way to Mum for a suckle.

africapurohit

@@Soukous beautiful photos - I've always heard the term "fawn" used to describe baby gazelle and impala.

thanks you for that @@africapurohit, I should probably stick to using the terms 'baby whatever' or 'young whatever' or maybe just post a multiple choice box so people can tick their preferred term. :P

I've always called them cubs, but maybe because they are cats it should be kittens :P

anyhow, this is a young lion

The light was horrible with really strong glare off the leaves and my cloning sucks big time, but his (her) face is just so cute.

I had a play in Photoshop to see if I could improve the photo.

I managed to get rid of most of the blown highlights on the leaves (albeit rather clumsily) and added a bit of warmth to the cub.

A friend of mine calls these "unimogs", for their disproportionately high long-limbed stance.
