I had a few hours free yesterday, so I thought I'd go to a new reserve. Of course, I forgot it is the school holidays, so I probably saw as many children as birds....

 

I didn't see any of the species that they have that are new to me, but I did capture one elusive one

At the weekend, we noticed a huge pile of dead wood chippings under my walnut tree and suspected a woodpecker was at work building a nest, so I moved the motion camera underneath. I caught it on the tree, but not digging out a hole - yet!

On the way home I went to a small man-made lake near a landfill site and did get a new species but also worked out the limits of the extender in the UK light, so the photo is not up to much....
