Thisis a very unusual visitor to the Midlands - especially to a suburban park pool. It stayed for well over a month and attracted a lot of birders!

This is a beautiful bird - and the female is much prettier than the picture in our bird book!

Many fishermen use Earlswood, and sometimes they put seeds on fenceposts which usually attract Robins. This Nuthatch also took advantage, but is a messy eater!

Great shots again, @@TonyQ! I love the photo of the Nuthatch and I do agree the female Mandarin duck is very pretty. What a special bird to have had in the Birmingham park pool. I've only ever seen it at the coast here.

lovely nuthatch-of course the only UK bird to be able to walk down trunks as well as up! We were able to see one yesterday at the Symonds Yat rock nuthatch watchpoint-well it is really the peregrine watch point but they proved more elusive

Our first trip to Upton Warren of the year. This is the best view I have had of a female Reed Bunting - a lovely looking bird.

The second year of birding is interesting because we are more aware of migration of birds. We particularly looked forward to the return of the Avocets, and heare they are back at Upton Warren. A very elegant bird I think, and always a treat to see.

This stunning bird does live wild in some parts of England (Norfolk and some areas of the south). However this individual is known to have escaped from a nearby farm, so I have not included it in the count. I have put the pictures in because it is the first time I have seen one. He just sat still in the undergrowth as we walked on a path through the woods. He escaped at the end of December, so was doing well to survive for a couple of months of winter.
