Luckily, a large group of the next bird pitched up in a field just outside our village for a couple of days.

My last bird of the BY is one of my favourites.  We have had quite regular sightings of it in this location during the year, but it waited until Christmas Day before giving me a worthy photo op - what a great present!

190.  (UK 116)  Kingfisher

We watched it dive and catch a fish and then followed it up the bank for a better shot.

Just one more picture before I finish for 2019.  A duplicate, but an excellent sighting.  We were at Leighton Moss just before Christmas and was amazed to find a water rail wandering around in the open on the path behind us.  This was the first time Adrian had seen one and it pottered around quite close to us for a couple of minutes.  Another fantastic bird sighting.

So I beat last year's UK total by 6 birds at 116.  There were 17 new birds this year but obviously some from last year that I didn't get this time.

I didn't quite make the 200 (def should have tried harder in SA).

However, I will be soldiering on for 2020. :)

Thank you Martin.

We enjoyed Witfontein very much so it didn't matter at all.
