Ljubljana is often shrouded in thick fog, and today was no exemption. Luckily web cams showed us that there is sun outside, therefore we drove to Zbiljsko jezero, for a cake and coffee and birds.

While Mallard above can be easily spotted also closer to our home, this one was primary target.

A beautiful winter sun makes even a black bird more photogenic.

Those Tufted Ducks are real beauties in the sunshine! Looking after the cake must have been a heavy responsibility....;)

At the beginning of the year only birds in best light are "good enough to be posted"; at the end of the year, EBC .

Speaking of excellent light, below is another example of what can be achieved in the soft winter sunshine. Only a slight crop was applied.

For my dedicated work I was rewarded with a bite of each cake; both mango and banana chocolate cakes were delicious!

Kardinalschnitte (type of cake) is obligatory snack between morning and afternoon birding at Seewinkel Austria with Michael and Andreas.

As good habits are easy to adopt, there was a mango cake and a banana/chocolate cake addendum to birding at Zbiljsko jezero :P!

Looks like everyone is excited at the beginning of the new Big Year, me included. So no one noticed (or was kind enough not to comment) the mistaken watermark!

But lets go on with this year birds as I am well behind and eating dust :D. Today I went to find either Bullfinches or Dipper. None was seen but I did not come home with empty card.
