Pedro does it again, 2nd Year!!

Recommended Posts

Here I am again, not a rookie anymore but still a long way to go, I have a lot a stuff to learn about birds and about photography but the main focus of my second year will be again to go out a spend a good time, which I already started to do.

I don´t have any long haul trips scheduled and I don´t know if I will do any, nor do I know if I do if it will be to a wildlife/tropical destination, so my goals will be domestic, and they will be to reach 215 species and 20 new, all of that in Portugal, let´s see how it goes, now I now a bit more (of course, I new nothing last year) of where, when and what to look for but it won´t be easy.

On top of that I will try to show better pictures, to do that I will try not to rush and post new species with lousy pictures, at least when I know that I will have more opportunities to do better, but of course there will be some EBC´s, it wouldn´t be as fun without those :P.

Welcome back Pedro, great you are doing it again. 215 is ambitious, but I´m sure you will be up to your own challenge.

It won’t be easy and to reach 215 I will surely reach the 20 new species because last year I had a good number of birds that I only saw once, it’s fair to expect that a few of those I won’t be able to see these year.

But I already have a couple of new ones...

Nice to have you with us also this year, @pedro maia! Last year score was excellent, for only one country, and I am wishing you good birding also this year. You have already achieved one goal; all posted birds are of very good quality.

Good to see you start again this year, with some good photos and species! You had an amazing home country score last year, so I'm looking forward to see what you can achieve in 2020.

Thanks @xelas and @PeterHG, so far I´m happy with the photos but there will be others not as good, of course.

Friday was my first day in the Lezíria in 2020, it was full of birds as usual, some of the largest concentrations of some species I saw so far, quite impressive, it was only a pity I didn´t get any new species but I think I took some nice pictures and also left some out of the cut since I´m pretty sure I´ll get better shots of those.

Right after entering the gate there was this juvenile catching the early morning sun while looking for it´s victims:

It´s wasn´t sunny everywhere and although the light was bad for the next photos and I could get this species in it´s classic flight with a catch in another moment I chose to add it now because it was quite a sighting.

#6, 3/1, Osprey, Lezíria Vila Franca de Xira

This one´s fish was still flapping while being ripped apart...

As I said there were some big concentrations of some species, this one was maybe the biggest, impossible to estimate but surely thousands.

Flamingos are quite common here and I see them quite often but I never saw them in the numbers that were at the Lezíria last Friday, a couple thousand at least.

This is probably the easiest species to photograph around here, not shy at all, maybe it was shouting because I parked my car right in front of it.
