I'll come back to South Africa in a moment, but just after we got home in February, this rarity was spotted a few hundred metres from our home.....

Excellent start to your South Africa collection. I love the Widowbirds, and the Ostrich.

The Waxwing from your local area is beautiful.

Peter Connan

It looks like we were at Marievale on different days Peter. Your photos are magnificent whereas mine are nearly all rubbish!

This surely cannot be true, Peter? I remember quite a few shots you managed to grab that looked very good.

Great shots as always and congrats on the half century.

Nice Waxwing too. They are getting scarcer as 'our' normal influx has not happened for two winters now.

More please.

60 (SA 54) Black Heron. Marievale, January. We did see the 'umbrella' display, but the light was not good enough for any decent photos.
