362/K106) Lilac-Breasted Roller (Coracias caudatus) / Gabelracke

Ol Kinyei, 12/11/21. The classic safari bird. Very scarce in Ol Pejeta - apparently driven out by the European Roller invasion there.

364/K108) Moustached Tinkerbird (Pogoniulus leucomystax) / Bergbartvogel

Aberdares, 16/11/21. A lifer, so of course I was thrilled to see this cute little bird.

366/K110) Spot-Flanked Barbet (Tricholaema lacrymosa) / Tränenbartvogel

Ol Kinyei, 11/11/21. Another camp bird - very early morning at Porini Cheetah. Only my second sighting of this one - the first sighting was in Akagera (Rwanda).

Thanks Dave. I need some help, found a weird bird in my house and it just won't leave. Any advice?

Aberdares, 16/11/21. Quite a distant sighting.

368/K112) Cardinal Woodpecker (Chloropicus fuscescens) / Kardinalspecht

Sandai Farm, 17/11 and Ol Pejeta, 20/11. The only Woodpecker seen a couple of times.

369/K113) Bearded Woodpecker (Chloropicus namaquus) / Namaspecht

Ol Pejeta, 20/11/21. Widespread, a very large Woodpecker. One of the more distinctive ones.

370/K114) African Grey Woodpecker (Chloropicus goertae) / Graubrustspecht

Ol Kinyei, 11/11/21. A total ebc. Apparently rather rare to see here, it is mostly replaced East of Western Kenya by the next one coming up.

371/K115) Mountain Grey Woodpecker (Chloropicus spodocephalus) / Graukopfspecht

Ol Pejeta, 21/11/21. Even „ebcier“. The two species have been split - the lack of red in the belly and the slight barring on the undertail are the field marks separating African Grey from Mountain Grey. The red on this Mountain Grey is unfortunately not really visible in this photo but it was there.

372/K116) Nubian Woodpecker (Campethera nubica) / Nubierspecht

Ol Pejeta, 19/11/21. Two sightings in this area. Kenya is the only country I‘ve ever seen this bird.

-/K117) Eurasian Hobby (Falco subbuteo) / Baumfalke

Ol Pejeta, 20/11/21. I‘m only posting this bad photo to express my bewilderment why modern (ebird) taxonomy seems to think Falcons are more closely related to Woodpeckers than other birds of prey. Makes little sense to me. That, and my desperate hope that it´s not a Hobby but something more interesting (=countable) and someone will give me another point. Also saw Common Kestrel and Peregrine, but no photos worth posting.

373/K118) Meyer‘s aka Brown Parrot (Poicephalus meyeri) / Goldbugpapagei

Ol Pejeta, 19/11/21. Definitely the easiest Parrot to see in Eastern and Southern Africa.

374/K119) Red-Fronted Parrot (Poicephalus gulielmi) / Kongopapagei

Aberdares, 16/11/21. Much rarer to see, more of of a forest parrot. I‘ve only seen this bird once before, very close to the same area. A rather distant flyover in rainy weather unfortunately.

375/K120) Black Cuckooshrike (Campephaga flava) / Kapraupenfänger

NNP, 10/11 and the Aberdares, 18/11/21. A couple good sightings of the male this time - the (completely different looking) female was more elusive.

376/K121) African Black-Headed Oriole (Oriolus larvatus) / Maskenpirol

Ol Kinyei, 14/11/21. A common bird but pretty shy. More heard than seen.

377/K122) Black-Tailed aka Montane Oriole (Oriolus percivali) / Bergpirol

Aberdares, 15/11/21. The highlands equivalent of the Black-Headed. One sighting only.

And an unusually clear sighting of „our“ Eurasian Golden Oriole (K123) in Ol Pejeta:

378/K124) Chinspot Batis (Batis molitor) / Weißflankenschnäpper

Sandai, 21/11/21. The default Batis species - I‘m pretty fond of this family.

Yes, if you put wine out on the feeder, some rarities may show up. They mostly stay all winter, so you may as well count it in both BY threads. ;)

379/K125) Brubru (Nilaus afer) / Brubruwürger

12/11/21. The smallest of the Bushshrikes I think. My first sighting in Kenya.

Well, it‘ s not so bad. The male just won’t stop „singing“ but the female is always a pleasure, and the offspring too. ;)

Micahel, I was going to click 'like' on every image you posted from Kenya but felt the risk of RSI or Carpal Tunnel Syndrome was too great. So I'll just say that you have posted so many beautiful photos I feel sick with envy. My own favourite is the Nubian Woodpecker, 'cos I've never seen one. I hope I can give you more of a run for your money in 2022

380/K126) Black-Backed Puffback (Dryoscopus cubla) / Schneeballwürger

Aberdares, 18/11. Quite a common bird but apparently kinda forgot about it. Struggled to find a photo.
