1029/Z64) Brown-Crowned Tchagra (Tchagra australis) / Dorntschagra

Gonarezhou NP, 3/11/22. A pretty common bird but in Uganda we only saw the Black-Crowned cousin.

1030/Z65) White-Bellied aka White-Breasted Sunbird (Cinnyris talatala) / Weißbauch-Nektarvogel

Gonarezhou NP, 3/11/22. The default Sunbird in the park. The ebird name really makes zero sense to me.

1031/Z66) Green-Winged Pytilia aka Melba Finch (Pytilia melba) / Buntastrild

Gonarezhou NP, 3/11/22. Such a delightful little bird. But really tough to get a decent photo on a safari drive. Easier in camp generally - got a nice one later at Chilo Gorge but haven‘ t processed these yet.

Gonarezhou NP, 4/11/22. Bit of an ebc (shot stark against the light) but a lifer!

1038/Z73) Red-Billed Buffalo Weaver (Bubalornis niger) / Büffelweber

Gonarezhou NP, 4/11/22. Really have no excuse for not presenting a better photo - they are really common birds.

More delicious birds served up.

EBird is wrong about Acacia Pied and Miombo Pied Barbets being conspecific. IMO. Ditto WB Sunbirds.

Let the Field Guide guide you.

I don´t like many of the ebird names, and agree White-Breasted Sunbird is really quite stupid for a white-bellied bird. And dont´t get me started on "Gray".

But the ebird names are starting to creep into my brain - the app and the website are really great, especially as a private database.

Not getting into the species and subspecies thing though, that´s way over my head anyway.

1041/Z76) Lappet-Faced Vulture (Torgos tracheliotos) / Ohrengeier

Gonarezhou NP, 6/11/2022. I had wrongly assumed that I had got this one in Uganda - would not have been too difficult to get a better photo. Did not see too many of them but a few were around every day in Mana Pools.
