Lovely shots! I had never been one to love ducks, but after seeing them in Spain, i've stopped ducking and learned to admire them.

In Denmark this bird is called a "Monk" so with this bird being female I guess it should be called a NunB)

Same in German - it's "Mönchsgrasmücke" (Monk Warbler). Beautiful additions.

I'd never heard of a Red-necked Grebe so out of interest did some research. There is one breeding pair in the UK apparently, and around 50 over winter here. Can't see it featuring on my BY then.Your island count is looking good!

Very good additions and I agree with the previous appreciations of the Red-necked Grebe: beautiful!

I spent some much needed time in the garden today. However I should have been at the other end of the Island with Oriole, Egyptean Vulture and Black Kites!

Maybe next year:D

The Garden produced IOM #56 Common Starling (Sturnus vulgaris)

  • 4 weeks later...

My wife and I made a trip to Italy in late May. Main purpose of the trip was to relax and get some nice food. I did not bring my usual camera but rather my Nikon P600. Excellent reach but very slow.

First two days in Bari produced nothing.

Next stop was Matera, the European capital of Lesser Kestrel. At times 25 birds could be seen in the air at the same time.

Quite a few

# 59 Common Wren around

We ended the trip in Rome.

Lots of Ring-necked Parakeetes. Sardininian warbler, Serin and Blue Rock Thrush (lifer) were seen but no photos.

# 60 Yellow legged Gulls were abundant.

Yesterday our cat wnt berserk. A small bird had entered the house.

I managed to get first the cat and then the bird out of the house without any harm done to the latter.

Pictures taken with mobile phone.
