Well I suppose it is OK to call a bird by the name it is known in the country where you are seeing it so 'Loon' passes muster. But where do those Melanittas do their Scooting?

This was one of birding highlights in Sequoia for no other reason then the drawing of this bird in the National Geo Bird Guide is quite cool - so I wanted to see it :D

After Sequoia and Yosemite we drove down to Monterey Bay for a bit of Whale Watching and my first Pelagic Bird Trip! Before that though we visited Point Lobos State Natural Reserve
