Thank you @Peter ConnanWhen it took off, it surprised me so the settings were not those I would normally choose, so I was pleased it came out!

It is easy to take the Magpie for granted as it is so common, but it is still a beautiful bird

We have seen this in Birmingham for three years in a row now, always hanging around with Canada Geese. I suspect it is the same individual

50.UK.50 Hawfinch  Coccothraustes coccothraustes

To reach 50, I saved this from earlier in the month as it is only the second time we have seen this species

(F, I think!) Tardebigge, Worcestershire   20.01.23

Both pretty high up in trees in the local Churchyard. Tardebigge is about 10 mins from Upton Warren, so we made a journey to try to see this on our way. We were lucky as it only took about 10 minutes before we saw one

Oh, lovely Hawfinch for your 50th!

We went out on a hawfinch hunt a couple of weeks ago but found nothing.

Our Garden, Birmingham       18.01.23

This individual bird has been visiting our garden for a few years now. It picks up scraps dropped by birds visiting the feeder.

We recognise it because it has a damaged foot and limps when it walks - but it seems to do OK!

I enjoyed seeing the evening sunlight on the flock as the birds flew past the moon.

That is it for January - the most productive we have had for UK birds!
