We did use a guide but it would be straightforward on your own

Oh Yes. I have done it often but the last trip I used a guide and he went places most of us would not dare to. Turned out his Dad was the Head Guard Sohan Lal.

Pigeons are not that popular, but I think this one is beautiful. And it was fun watching it eat the berries!

An egret with many different names "intermediate egret, median egret, medium egret, smaller egret, or yellow-billed egret". Yellow billed seems particularly unhelpful!

I decided to stick with "Intermediate"

Another bird that is common at home. This is a different sub-species (and no I will not be counting subspecies:)).

The eyes are much paler than the Little Grebes we see at home.

Dabchick seems to be still fairly widely used as a name here. We even saw a "Dabchick Guest Huuse"

Fantastic start to your Indian birds Tony, great birds and photos. Funny, some of these were also around in Oman. Not even mentioning our European ones, but also stuff like White-eared Bulbul or Clamorous Reed-Warbler.

India has beautiful birds, but it takes a good photographer to capture them.

Fortunately you are not a good photographer, but a great one!

I was taking a photo of the Stilts. In real life I didn't see the Garganey - most of the time it had its head under the water. I only saw it when looking back at the photos!
