Thanks Andy. I agree, lovely looking birds.

Out on the Kinabatangan river at night a number of birds appear to go into a trance-like state (possibly sleeping?) after dark, and can be approached v. closely indeed without them flinching - I could easily have reached out and touched this (tiny!) Blue-eared kingfisher:

@@Whyone? I did put up photos of the bearded pig in my TR on Tanjung Pinang National park/Camp Leakey (http://safaritalk.net/topic/14740-in-the-footsteps-of-dr-birute-galdikas-an-orangutan-escapade/page-4)

but they are a rare sighting in ST so there's no such thing as too many pics of them! yours is a super pic of its beard. :)

i didn't know you were in town for F1 (superb pix of Hamilton btw, but such a sore loser) otherwise we could have met up! I was at the races but it was the concerts that were the bigger attraction (Queen no less) for me.

Hi @@Kitsafari - apologies, I missed your TR, but rest assured I am will be catching up on this later today, thanks for the link.

Yes, I attended the F1 races in Singapore (and saw Queen and Imagine Dragons!) and Malaysia, shame we missed the opportunity to share a drink (jolly expensive though it is in Singapore!) and an ST chat. I agree with what you say about Hamilton. Brilliant driver though he is, I cannot bring myself to support him due to his lack of sportsmanship.

That picture looks soft to me here. On other "places" I posted it, it appears sharper.

Ebony Irises

Photographed at 2:58 pm on 17 February, 2017 in Kruger National Park, South Africa, using an EOS 1D X camera and an EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II super-telephoto lens.

ISO 250, 1/2500 sec., f/2.8, 400mm focal length, handheld Manual exposure.

The heavy rains of mid-February had closed most roads such that we were restricted to the major highways. Nevertheless in the cool air there was considerable wildlife activity.

This lioness was one of two who emerged from a grassy thicket, making her way through the wet grass with a measured pace as birds loudly chirped around her.

From a snowy and cold morning in the domain of the golden eagles, here in Norway, in telemark. The golden eagle are the fasest bird after the peregrine falcon, and one of the best hunters of the sky.

The photo was taken in Katavi last week. Criticism of settings, composition and so on would be appreciated. I haven't done any Photoshop work yet. It's the only shot from the trip that I'm happy with so far. I'll upload some more photos when I get home and get stuck into the RAW files.

Sorry, I meant to species level. A quick look at google image search and species range diagrams suggests that it's Civettictis civetta.

I got a genet's tail several times on the camera trap. Annoyingly, this is the best shot that I managed to get.

The herbivore density at Katavi was surprisingly low. The biggest elephant and buffalo herds that we saw both had less than 10 members and there were periods where we drove for over an hour without seeing much of interest. Our guide said that it would be a lot easier to spot animals in around a month. I'd be interested to hear how this compares with other people's experiences of the park. In the four days that we were in the park we only saw four other vehicles so there were times when it felt like we had the place to ourselves. This included being the only vehicle at two excellent lion sightings so it was a very enjoyable trip.

I'm just sorting through photo's I took on a recent trip to Cambodia (Siem Reap / Angkor Wat area) and whilst not deliberate, it has become apparent that, one way or another,  I have a lot of 'things framed by other things'!
