Extremely cool sighting, and well captured. I have never seen a Barn Owl in Europe.

Thanks everyone.

We were very excited about it.  Just like being on safari but only 30 mins from home :)

So back to the Whooper swans.  There were easily well over a hundred swans across the fields either side of the lane. There were a few close to the hedge and I was just about able to see over to take a picture.  (Lots of lapwings as well but I will be able to get better pics of them later).

Wow is not enough for the Barn Owls. I loved the build up too. Indeed I called Lady G into my study and ran the sequence for her. She is not the greatest fan of BY but her comment of 'Oh? YES!' says a lot.

Very envious. You have set the bar very high for us all and the beauty of it is/was that this sighting was just as it happened.

Now something that there is definitely no shortage of near the coast.  I have tried to find one that is closer to 'Rock' than 'Feral' :)

Now this was an unexpected find on Saturday.  We had started our walk near to the River Brock where there is always a good chance of Dippers, in fact we saw them a number of times but they were just too quick for me.  But later on when we were walking alongside fields, we passed a farmyard with some interesting coloured Greylags in and it was only because I was looking at them so closely that I noticed on the other side of the fence in the open field a small group of Barnacle Geese. Actually a lifer for me :)

Picture took a bit of getting, the lane was lower than the field and I had to scramble down and up a ditch to get close enough to get the camera past the hedge and wire fencing.

A bit of sun appeared on Monday morning so I took a quick drive across to the estuary.  Didn't stay too long as it was freezing in the breeze but got a few additions plus one I didn't get last year.

Now I wouldn't have been able to distinguish this from any of the other pipits, other than it's location, but there have been regular sightings all month here by different local bird club members so I think I am safe with this. I didn't get this one last year so another lifer!

Some birds from the garden (because it is just too cold to go out at the moment).

These birds, along with blackbirds, are by far the most numerous visitor to our garden.

Then in among the house sparrows I spotted these guys.  This is the first time I have noticed them in the garden.  There was a small group of them on the feeders.
