The Lord Howe Island birds were fabulous, great pics of the Buff banded Rail.

A very worthwhile visit. I love it when 'rare and endangered species' don't know they should hide away but come out and flaunt it instead.

excellent collection from Lord Howe's.

I just love your photos on the brown and black noddies or is it noddys? - their characters just shine through!

Some top class photography in your thread Sharon. I particularly like the Brown Noddy sequence. Your low level shots are as I would like to take them but in the last few months my back problems seem to have got worse and I'm reluctant to lay down on the ground if I'm going to have to get up again any time soon!! Shame on me for being idle.

Thanks for your kind words @Dave Williams. I must admit I’m not as nimble as I’d like but the difference a low perspective makes gets me down there. Not worth risking your back though

@shazdwngreat photos on your thread. Wonderful that LHI birds allow close ups, the island has just jumped a couple of places on the bucket list.

Thanks everyone

Last weekend I headed a couple of hours south looking for my nemesis bird, the Gouldian finch. We visited a site my friend had seen a flock of 200 feeding for a couple of hours the week before-I managed a quick glimpse of just 3. But at least I can add it to my big year.

But the weekend was not a bust, I also got 2 lifers - although it wasn't great for photography.

This is my contender for EBC of the year, but it is a VERY elusive species so I'll take it
