458/ZA17.) Goliath Heron (Ardea goliath) / Goliathreiher

Pretty much the only Heron we had not seen in Tanzania. A few birds in both parks.

Just one single bird in the Kafue. All the others (White-Backed, Hooded and Lappet) were regularly seen.

Thanks @Tdgraves!

466/ZA25.) Southern Red-Billed Hornbill (Tockus rufirostris) / Südlicher Rotschnabeltoko

Luckily for me Red-Billed Hornbills are split into dozens of different species. So one more for the count even though it looks pretty much the same as the Tanzanian Red-Billed HB. Quite common in South Luangwa.

Excellent start. Hard to pick a 'winner ' in this batch. Oh go on then. Schalow's but I love the Owls too and HC Kingfisher.

Lovely owl photos. Wonder if you took as many boat rides on the kafue river as we did the last time?!

A collection of great birds and photos, Michael! I love those Skimmers (never seen them in Africa) and your flight shot of the Giant Kingfisher!

Incredible photos and birds as usual, especially that Schalow´s Turaco  - what a stunner.

Feeling very jealous of anyone who can travel overseas at the moment, trapped as we are on our prisoner island for what looks like still many months to come.  Oh well ok its a pretty special island and has very little Covid so I can't complain, but this world traveller has a bad case of itchy feet.  At least I can live vicariously through your images (and maybe a future trip report??? Please )

469/ZA28.) Racket-Tailed Roller (Coracias spatulatus) / Spatelracke

A lifer for me! In photographic terms at least, I´ve seen it a couple of times but could never get a picture. Two birds together in the Kafue - unfortunately a very dark and rainy afternoon. Still, I was very excited to finally get a good look at this bird.

470/ZA29.) Bennet´s Woodpecker (Coracias spatulatus) / Kardinalspecht

Two sightings in South Luangwa.

Its diminutive Cardinal cousin was a bit more cooperative. And since that one only got a headless shot in Tanzania I´m posting it as well.

471/ZA30.) Lilian´s Lovebird (Coracias spatulatus) / Erdbeerköpfchen

Abundant in South Luangwa but tiny and furtive, so not that easy to get a shot at all.
