wow @Galana you have super eyes. I didn't even notice it at all! Yes I do have a slightly better one that was closer although the light here was far better.

Good job from Herman who was doggedly chasing for a better shot of this woodpecker which was initially very backlit.

Well it's certain that I cannot complete the BY by 12am January 1 2022 which is just 10 mins away in our timezone. 

Herman and I had to break for a week as my mother-in-law - Herman's mum - passed away on Christmas Day after a three-week illness in the hospital. In fact, we were on our 7th day of the 11-day birding trip in Spain when we had a call from home that meant we had to cut short our entire trip and flew home 4 days ahead of schedule. The last week has been a whirlwind of the funeral wake and funeral, but we celebrated her 89 years of life, and yet miss her presence acutely. She lived with us. 

 

So before the clock strikes the start of 2022, i'll quickly slip in one or two more just to mark the end of 2021.

ALready in the SG count, the kingfisher we saw in Spain appeared to be more greenish than the blueish upperparts we are used to in Asia.
