755/EC224) Andean Emerald (Amazilia franciae) / Andenamazilie

Tandayapa Bird Lodge, 14/8/2022. One of the easier Hummers to ID with its clean white underparts.

756/EC225) Purple-Bibbed Whitetip (Urosticte benjamini) / Purpurbrustkolibri

Tandayapa Bird Lodge, 14/8/2022. Quite a scarce species apparently.

The Purple Bib of the male:

We had already seen the female the day before:

757/EC226) Flavescent Flycatcher (Myiophobus flavicans) / Gelbzügel-Schnäppertyrann

Lower Tandayapa Valley, 14/8/2022. We left the lodge to explore the valley a bit. Again it was a rather frustrating outing, with few birds actually seen. When we were told we had a "flavescent" Flycatcher (whatever that actually means) we had our word of the trip. Everything was flavescent from now on, we really took to this word. :D

Lower Tandayapa Valley, 14/8/2022. Another of the super-difficult creepers. But it was actually a rather nice sighting.

759/EC228) Chivi Vireo (Vireo chivi) / Chivi-Vireo

Lower Tandayapa Valley, 14/8/2022. Close to the lodge we finally found a very enjoyable mixed flock finally. Most of them were old friends but we also spotted a few new ones among them.

Tandayapa Bird Lodge, 14/8/2022. We had hoped to find this species in the valley but no luck. But it was waiting for us around the lodge! Our driver Jimmy found it. "Only" the female but we were still very happy about this sighting.

769/EC238) Powerful Woodpecker (Campephilus pollens) / Zimtbindenspecht

Lower Tandayapa Valley, 14/8/2022. We moved a bit farther up the Valley in the afternoon hoping to get two specific species we had glimpsed but not properly seen when we had first passed through here. This was the first, so the mission was already a success.

774/EC243) Saffron-Crowned Tanager (Tangara xanthocephala) / Gelbkopftangare

Lower Tandayapa Valley, 14/8/2022. An expensive bird, we paid USD 10,-- for it. Unusual on the Western slopes, but Alex knew it attends one farmer´s feeders. He had learnt how to make good money out of that. :D

More truly magnificent sightings. Red headed Barbet and Crimson=mantled Woodpeckers are just fine but the (Wood)Star with the Purple front definitely is in a class of its own..

I am a bit torn about the length of our stay here. I did appreciate that we did not have to pack/unpack every day because we stayed here for six nights. OTOH especially the drives to Silanche and Mashpi were awfully long and logistically it would have made much more sense to have closer accommodations for those. (The real reason why Tropical Birding is doing it this way is they - or someone affiliated with them - own the place btw.)
