221/CB128. Green-billed Malkoha, Tmat Boey Hide

an even more skittish bird than the blue magpie is the secretive malkoha. This species made up my award-winning EBC that had the best of you stumped. Just a reminder from my Chiangmai trip in the 2019 BY:

So when i saw it appeared at the Tmat Boey, I was beyond myself. one of the most beautiful birds I've ever seen, I'm ending my Cambodia with this lovely bird.  The green-billed Malkoha has a remarkably long tail, and is distributed naturally in the eastern part of India and Himalayas through Indochina, down through Thailand and Malaysia into Sumatra. please excuse a proliferation of photos!

and there you have it - Cambodia is not empty of birds, at least not yet, with its forests at the moment full of Indochinese endemics and a handful of endangered species.

A fantastic presentation of a birdlife from the country that not many have visited, and even less have done birding there.

What a grand finale. The last two Malkohas are very uncluttered with obstructions proving how patience gets rewarded.

Thanks for sharing some excellent birds from a country few of will visit.

Shame about the crappy guide, always such a disappointment, but you had some cracking sightings nonetheless.

Sorry for being late - congrats on a wonderful first #200, well done! That´s a really cool Cambodia list. Impressive since you were only there for, what, five days or so? You were really working hard! Absolutely love those Woodpeckers shots. Really fascinating species they have there, some of them look almost cartoonish. The Malkoha photos are stunning btw. Looking forward to the rest of your absolutely unleisurely year Kit. :)

Thanks @michael-ibk,  yea, surprisingly, with much of the world relaxing border restrictions now, the leisurely year may just turn into a busy year and i say Hurrah to that! except that a return to Africa is unlikely this year as other trips were booked before Singapore finally put away all border and most in-country restrictions in late April.

We were watching the spotted wood owls, and the cuckoo was watching us silently. Judith did well spotting this cuckoo.
