We were scheduled to have a two-day birding session in the Ottawa area after we returned from the Arctic. I was feeling very tired so I skipped the first day but Herman went on the tour. I was all prepared for the second day but unfortunately the second day opened with heavy rain and the forecast was for all-day rain, so the guide said it was better to cancel the birding, which really disappointed us. Bugger the weather, the rain cleared 11+ and in the afternoon, the sun shone. On our last morning, we checked out the Britannia Conservancy park for a couple of hours and the guide, who felt bad about the weather, showed us around without charging us. which was quite generous.

The following are from the Ottawa birding areas. Not too many sadly.

306. Bobolink

A odd sounding name with a nicer old name Rice Bird, the bobolink is a songbird from the new world blackbird group.

Unfortunately, the beautiful male didn't show up. instead we were entertained by the chicks and the pretty mum.

Found a new species from Floe's edge - we thought they were canadian geese but a veteran birder noted the difference and named it!
