One of the most surprising sightings of the trip, found right next to the dining tent at Porini Mara Camp.  A (very annoying) fellow birder was loudly proclaiming this to be a European Scops-owl, but given the staff said it was pretty much resident and we were, after all, in Africa I'm going with

So I didn't change the date on my camera, meaning some of the dates on here may be wrong.  But it was around this time that we moved on to Porini Lion Camp in the Olare-Motorogi Conservancy

Interesting. As both are indistinguishable in the field and regarded as conspecific by some authorities I wonder what your annoying friend was claiming to be the distinguishing features in his ID?
