Tdgraves smaller big year 2023

Next up Ouse Fen again. The wind died down the day after @Soukouswanted to visit. A little crake had been heard in one part, which was not my target, but a pair of turtle doves. I did see them as I got back to the car, but was too slow for a shot. Nothing else new, but an improvement and this means that I have noticed a duplicate, so the next post will be 231 again

My OH woke me up (inadvertently) really early a  few days later and as I couldn't get back to sleep and it was actually sunny for a change, I decided to go out for a walk. It really felt like I was on safari as there was a chill in the air, but blue skies and I had the reserve to myself for the first hour. I saw my first bittern for ages, but unfortunately it flew up behind some vegetation, so I could not focus on it in time. The light was gorgeous for the first hour and I had a lovely, if tiring, time. It is the only time I have gone out on an early walk in the UK and I can see the attraction - it is definitely the best time to see warblers, but I fear that I like my sleep too much to repeat often!

You certainly get an award for effort with this batch.

Sadly no award for the suspected GBlack-back.

Another early morning walk at the end of the month was not nearly as satisfying - it was overcast and the sightings were not as good. Still, got a nice sedge warbler though...

Yet another early morning walk to start this month. I would prefer the sleep, but it appears to be becoming a habit...At least the light was better yesterday. It is drying out and some waders have returned (but were very distant). I was glad I went though, as I got a lifer!!

We went to Grafham water this week. On the day I had hoped to go, I was feeling under the weather, so put it off. That was the day that the osprey made an appearance

Some duplicates. I struggle with adult gulls, so not going there with juveniles...

"Common" Grasshopper Warbler ! I wish!

Nice shot too.

You recent purchase of both the lens and body has surprised me. Both excellent pieces of kit but I presume the gym is part of your daily routine now! What tripod and head have you added?

In fact, we went there again late yesterday afternoon as the light was so nice, but there were hardly any birds to be seen.

I had planned to go for a long walk on Friday, as the forecast at the beginning of the week was that this would be the best day. Of course, when Friday came around, storm Betty had appeared. However, by about 4.30 it seemed to clear up, so I went to Fen Drayton lakes. Nothing very close to photograph, but on the way out I found one for the BY that I have not seen in a few years....

Caught up. Love your Grey Partridge. Yet to appear in any of my BYs so far. Not for the want of trying.
