Rainbirder,

What's the story behind the cheetah image? Mara i imagine?

Aye, an image taken about 30 mins drive west of Mara Intrepids (in July 2007). A female and four almost full-grown youngsters (two of which were snoozing behind the group of three). It was a cold crisp clear morning as we set out from camp just before sunrise. We struck out west then struck gold! The image was taken as the first rays of the sun turned the long grass a golden yellow. We were the only vehicle there for about 50 minutes. We headed off as my teen kids got bored and started squabbling!

I later heard from another camp guide that about two hours after we left the cheetah family were watched pulling down a young gnu! The price I pay for dragging kids along on safari!!!

A tooth for an eye!

A still image can't capture the raw power and violence of this clash!

The elephant on the right almost lost an eye but successfully managed to parry his opponent's tusk due to the blocking action of his trunk (he received a perforated trunk for his trouble!).

Another reminder of the dentist..... Maasai Mara 2009 - and this a double smap because this is a lion associated with the terrorist Notch aka Kali, back when he was transitioning from British TV drama to Hollywood.

This is an attempt at a panning shot of a wildog hunting impala - taken in the Kruger Park. I'm still not sure if I like it or not.
