@Soukous certainly not before mid-November as it’ll be closed!

i think it is a better winter spot. There are lots of hides, but all a bit far from the water. Great if you have 500 or 600 mmblens, although maybe wwt welney has the edge (have only been there once but hides seemed a bit closer. Walk is less wild though, but made up for by the cafe)

only place I have seen avocet before is Kent estuary and marievale!

I'm not sure why you are not happy with the TC as the shots look OK to me. If they are a dot in the distance in the first place they will stay that way.  I was impressed how sharp my images have been when using that combination, however, AF is a bit slow for BIF but you have done well!

@Dave Williams the AF is so slow. Even when the tern was really close, it had already passed by the time the lens had caught focus. It is better with "stationary" birds though....like this guy who has been using a bird box in my garden for the first time in 6 years

I ended up with 33 species in total, not bad for a few hours, but again missed the tree sparrows...

Just realised that I haven't yet posted a marsh harrier, but I will keep the distant shot that I got in reserve until December, in the hope I can find a closer one....

I am also sitting on a barely recognisable Marsh Harrier just in case I need to nudge the count along. I hope I never feel the need to use it.

I popped into Fen Drayton after work a few weeks ago and got eaten alive by mosquitos, I did add one to the count though!

That was my first thought actually then I changed my mind due to the prominent eye ring but looking again, I'd go with Garden too. The bill shape and generally grey overall appearance?

It actually just popped off the page but yes when I had a thunk that's what clinched it.
