GAME: name that bird!

If Prince Vultan will permit I'll get back to the serious matter of identifying birds, at least naming this one should be easier than trying to work out how those hawkmen can fly :D

I think this is probably a white-fronted plover

A male sunbird of one of the less flambuoyant species.

The greenish irridescent head fits a number of species.

The dorsal colouration is wrong for Green-headed Sunbird. I thought about Grey-chinned Sunbird but the bill is too long and decurved for it to be that species.

My guess is White-bellied Sunbird = White-breasted Sunbird (Nectarinia talatala).

I saw one of these little chaps in Tanzania on my last trip in so unless I’m mistaken I know what this one is, but I think I’ll wait and see if anyone else wants to have a go. :)

I think you're right. If anyone else wants a hint the scientific name makes a better anagram: slay white ivy-tit! (This photo is not its typical habitat, btw...)

There's a coconut for the first one to solve the anagram! ;-)

PS I'm away with my matched tomorrow for a few weeks, so I'm not claiming my place at all...

"away with my matched tomorrrow"

It sounds like an interesting and slightly mind-boggling activity! Reminds me of the lyrics to some mid-70s progressive rock albums. :D

I am trying for the coconut but getting nowhere....

I'm terrible at crossword clues so forgive me for this: "Oliver the embarrassed English revolutionary is rendered unwell with the addition of a French beak"!

I was beginning to think that the no one wanted to name the last one, perhaps because everyone’s run out of photos but I’m glad to see that’s not quite the case. :)

This is a purple/rufous-crowned roller Coracius naevius

Silver cheeked hornbill? Hard to tell cause the male has his head lowered.

On another note - I (I'm an artist) and my photographer husband will be having a show/sale of our work called SHARED VISIONS which will include lots of birds. It will be October 13 at the Cultural Heritage Art Gallery in Arusha. Prior to that we are doing an artist in residency. Hope it's OK I posted here, new to all this - but Matthew suggested you might be interested. Hope to see you there!

I guess this one is fairly difficult, as I suspect I may be one of the only people here who’s seen this species, though I could be wrong. Here are some more clues, look at the underside and the tails of the birds it’s not so easy to see due to the small size of the photo but the underside of the tail is all white. Also look at the casque, to make it a bit easier here’s another photo, I wasn’t actually sure if I had any other shots, but I did find one, though it wasn’t at all good of the female so I’ve cropped her out.

So anyone else want to have a go?
