  • 1 month later...

So once again I have a LOT of catching up to do.  This may take a few days.  I left off halfway through Kakadu Bird Week - so let's start back there.

I can't believe I haven't added this common bird yet.

This next one was a great encounter.  This is a hard to spot bird, one of the main targets for the Yellow Water area.  We first came across this one as it just caught a cherubin (freshwater prawn) which was impressive enough.  Then a saltwater crocodile started heading its way and it started to fluff up its feathers in warning and let out a strange grunting sort of call.  No something you see or hear every day so I'm including a few pics

We had a couple of rare visitors too that got the birding world excited - not that either of them wanted to let me get a decent shot, so bare with me for a couple more EBCs

176/NT129 - Little-ringed Plover, Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia - 27 Sept 2021

What can't see it?  I'll add a cropped version to help ;)

lovely details on the great billed heron - ours are always like a hundred miles away.

You won't win the Best EBC with that ebc photo.

wow that ring plover looks like a dot next to the ducks! took e a while to figure where it was using your cropped shot.

and why doesn't that sandpiper migrate to our  shores? :(

This bird has been something of a nemesis for me - my husband kept seeing them but only when I wasn't there - until this day.
