124/E124) White-Winged (Black) Tern (Chlidonias leucopterus) / Weißflügel-Seeschwalbe

Seewinkel, 30/4/2022. Its cousin. A new one for my Austria list although I´ve seen it in Africa and Romania. Always very distant unfortunately, it´s a stunning bird up close in breeding plumage.

127/E127) Long-Eared Owl (Asio otus) / Waldohreule

Seewinkel, 30/4/2022. Always a delight to see this fabulous bird here. Future is looking good, we were looking at two different sets of fledglings (quite close to each other).

129/E129) Little Stint (Calidris minuta) / Zwergstrandläufer

Seewinkel, 29/4/2022. "Z" with the German names, so that means last Seewinkel addition - for now! (Quite a few lurking in the big bad ebc dungeon.)

116/E116) European Stonechat (Saxicola rubicola) / Schwarzkehlchen

Seewinkel, 30/4/2022. Not a common bird in Austria. I know, hard to believe for @pedro maia. :)

Congratulations, and thank you again for outstanding birding days! How many centuries ahead? My bet is this year you will pass #700. Time to set a new BY record.

I'm catching up but expected to see more than just 129 Michael. I wonder what the true score is! Still, if you are like me finding time to process the shots is not easy!

I wonder myself @Dave Williams. ;)

130/E130) Black Woodpecker (Dryocopus martius) / Schwarzspecht

Kaisersteinbruch/Austria, 13/5/22. A huge bird, our largest Woodpecker. I hear it once in a while but seeing and getting it is a different pair of shoes.

131/E131) Curlew Sandpiper (Calidris ferruginea) / Sichelstrandläufer

Seewinkel/Austria, 14/5/2022. A work trip to Vienna was a good opportunity to add on a bit of Seewinkel time. Not easy picking up new stuff after our pretty thorough weekend two weeks ago but this was one of them. Did not even realize but it´s actually a new bird for my Austria list. :)

Dunlins and Curlew Sandpipers are classic ID problems in their non-breeding plumage. Not anymore in late spring, totally different birds now:

And btw @mvechtactually managed to add a Thrush Nightingale to my Austria list as well. Just heard though, it behaved to true Nightingale style and remained invisible although I must have stood less than three metres away from it. A very popular bird this weekend, everybody came to see - make that hear - it.

132/E132) Caspian Gull (Larus cachinnans) / Steppenmöwe

Seewinkel, 14/5/2022. Always tricky to tell this one apart from the much more common Yellow-Legged Gull. But looks good for this one, especially the very white contrasting head and the long bill.

Is this a common Austrian phrase that doesn’t quite translate?! Never heard it before….

133/E133) Barred Warbler (Curruca nisoria) / Sperbergrasmücke

Seewinkel/Austria, 14/5/2022. Our coolest Warbler - it was not yet present two weeks ago (I think) but now checking out some of the usual spots did produce results. Always a battle getting a photo, they are very skulky.

It is but I always thought it is an English phrase as well?
