96/E96) Common Sandpiper (Actitis hypoleucos) / Flussuferläufer

Seewinkel/Austria, 29/04/2022. I see them every time I go to the Inn (our main river here in Tirol) but impossible to get as close to them as here.

97/E97) Corn Bunting (Emberiza calandra) / Grauammer

Seewinkel/Austria, 01/05/2022. The region is one of the last strongholds of this rapidly declining species in Austria.

99/E99) Collared Flycatcher (Ficedula albicollis) / Halsbandschnäpper

Seewinkel/Austria, 01/05/2022. An early morning walk on my own on the last day in the rain provided this pretty rare species - have only seen it once before. Unfortunately only the female. Extremely similar to Pied Flycatcher, the quite big white patch on the wing is the ID mark. Confirmed by Leander Khil, Austria´s leading birding guide.

100/E100) Great Bustard (Otis tarda) / Großtrappe

Seewinkel/Austria, 30/04/2022. A given here. But they always stay far from the road. This time one indiviual was relatively accommodating, but I still would have needed more "firepower".

Seewinkel/Austria, 1/5/2022. The only individual - spotted by sharp-eyed @xelas. One of the last birds we got this weekend.

102/E102) Eastern Imperial Eagle (Aquila heliaca) / Kaiseradler

Seewinkel/Austria, 1/5/2022. The very last bird of the trip. Just a speck in the sky but I have little hope of getting a better one.

103/E103) Ruff (Calidris pugnax) / Kampfläufer

Seewinkel/Austria, 1/4/2022. Ruffs are highly variable - it was cool to see so many different-looking males. They become even more impressive later in the year but we never see them like that in Austria where they are only moving through.

111/E111) Common Redshank (Tringa totanus) / Rotschenkel

Seewinkel, 29/4/2022. One of the waders breeding here. Unfortunately it has been a catastrophically dry year, spelling disaster for the breeders and the migrants. If it goes on like this Seewinkel won´t be a birding paradise much longer.
