I  realise that this is a rare bird sighting, but it caused lots of consternation in the field and our guide conferred with others after the drive and came up with the ID. I can't find a better fit..

How are you finding the 200-400? Have you tried using an extra TC with it? I have always wondered how it would perform with two at the same time.

It’s such a step up from the 100-400! We didn’t try the TC, mainly as things were pretty close anyway, but also as there wasn’t much time between sightings! Most of the time I didn’t use the internal TC, apart from for birds. The main issue is weight, so it really needs to be supported on the vehicle. I can’t really use it for birds in flight, maybe I need to go to the gym more 

 

apparently the additional TC works ok, but the main thing I liked was the wider aperture, which would be lost. I suspect we will try in the Kgalagadi as things can be further away and the light is usually good.

You need one of these! If I lived out there I would certainly get one, not that expensive really.Not much use in the UK really and taking one on holiday would eat up the baggage allowance!
