Quite a trick bird to see. We looked for a while in the morning - Cristian heard it but we could not see it. We went back later in the afternoon and were pleased to get clear views.

Higher up is the Ski Resort of Farellones. Not busy at this time of year as there is not a lot of snow around

These were one of the birds that were not "Lifers" for us - we had seen some many years ago in Peru. But the ones here were much, much closer. It was a fabulous place for Condors.

Andean Condors, any Condors, on the building roof has to be a big plus for the place.

Great birds you are finding.

Thanks for the link.

Great additions.

I wonder… what does the Ground-tyrant do to deserve such a name?

Fulfil Galana's law. It is a Tyrant that lives on the ground.:P

Carl Linnaeus gave the genera the Tyrant that name in 1730 before my time.

@Galana@Kitsafari@xelasthank you

@Dave Williamsthank you - I had not heard of most of them either :D

@JimSthank you. @Galanaexplains it better than I could (although I would manage the "Ground" bit!)

This day we head higher into the Andes towards Yeso

We already had this species in Santiago, but this is a different sub-species (australis) from high altitude. It has a plain head, the one in Santiago had a striped head)
