Gorgeous loepard photos, All :)

We have been very lucky with our leopard sightings in Kruger over the last 33 years. There were very few trips we did not see a leopard whether it was just a glimpse or a good show.

Here is one we saw on the H10, fast asleep

He woke up and watched us

We had him to ourselves for a long time. As it got crowded he decided it was time to move on

Safari Cal

As we entered the Mara Triangle last July, @@laurab and I stopped at the Lower Mara Bridge to pay our park fees and as always, to have a chat with the Rangers. We were asked what we were hoping to see on this safari, to which I replied, 'We'd really like to see Leopards, hopefully. The reply surprised us, as one of the Rangers asked 'Do you want to see one now?'

Of course we couldn't say no, and off we went with a Ranger on board up the river road from the bridge. After only 5 minutes we were looking into a tree at this beautiful female, this is one of my first shots from last years safari. We didn't realise it till the next evening, but there was a cub in the tree much higher up, alas we didn't get a shot of it, but what a great way to start our safari :D

Safari Cal

Taken on a night drive from the Serena Lodge in the Mara Triangle we were looking at a Hippo when something moved behind it, we couldn't believe our luck when we saw the Leopard hunting a Dikdik. It was a youngster and hadn't quite mastered the art of hunting. This lucky Dikdik managed to escape, but was given a hell of a fright.

Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, last weekend. My first sighting of a leopard in a tree. Found the same leaopard in the same tree two days running. On both occasions it watched us for a few minutes and then left.

@@Peter Connan Good things come to those who wait - how often do you get up to Klaserie Private Nature Reserve?

Matt, this farm belonged to my grandfather from the year of my birth until about five years ago. During that period I went there at least once a year but often as many as five times a year.

Great stuff: would you like to write its history for a featured Safaritalk article?

Matt, unfortunately I don't really know enough about it to do it justice, but I will scratch around and see what I come up with, thanks for the offer.

Not seen a leopard in 7 years!! I'm jinxed. I'll be at Mara Toto and Mara Plains in September. If I don't see one then I'm giving up!

I almost saw one at Zarafa in May, there was a fresh kill of a fully grown male impala up a tree, freshly snacked upon, but then I had to go to Selinda Explorers Camp. There, at Selinda Explorers, I was told by my guide that he has never failed to show guests leopard there. I was there one night, saw fresh, fresh tracks right close to camp in the morning, but had to dash for my flight. I failed again. He failed for the first time that season. Like I say, I'm bloody jinxed!

Here's a shot of one that got away - Zarafa Camp, Botswana.

PP,

You are almost guaranteed one or more leopards with Ping at either of your camps in the Mara. Just give him a full day and have patience. He is like a magician when it comes to tracking leopards, mostly relying on animal alarm calls. I am confident you will see your elusive leopards in September.

Please give my regards to Ping, Richard & Lorna.
