As with everyone else, what a fantastic shot to reach a very creditable 200! I would never have thought a small Owl would take down such a large bird.

A belated congrats on the magnificent #200. Great series!  And beautiful flight shots of the roller, too.

I hadn't heard the description Ring-necked Pheasant before, seems it's an American name rather than the European description of Common Pheasant. I might be wrong though!

Depends which book one reads.  @Dave Williams In ahem "sporting circles" there is a breakdown into races.

Chinese,  Ringneck, Melanistic etc.,

The 'naturalised' Roman/Middle eastern variety is known as a Ringneck almost everywhere as opposed to "Chinese' for the non ring-necked bird.

As far as we are concerned it a bloody Pheasant.

An awful EBC, but  the bird just didn´t stop and I can´t be too picky if I want to have chances of reaching my Portuguese goal.

Sorry I am late catching up. Wonderful birds from Mashatu, you used the hide really well.

Your Portugal totals are really moving on as well.

@pedro maia Have you ever thought about giving up work to offer birding trips in Portugal?

Here's a link to a Portuguese birding guide covering the Castelo Branco area. I'd especially like to see,

Quote

With regard to the larger species, it can be said that in this region occur practically all the great gliding birds of Portugal: griffon vulture, Egyptian vulture, black vulture, golden eagle, imperial eagle, bonelli's eagle, hawk eagle and scarlet eagle,

(Google translate from page 2)

I go up to the Monsanto area every now and again, I'll have to look harder next time...

I think a lot about giving up work but it’s just not possible, and to become a birding guide wouldn’t be an option, I’m still a rookie in what birding is concerned.

I haven’t been there for many years. But Monsanto should be good for big birds of prey, if you start looking for them you qill be surprised, I see birds of prey int the A5 motorway, although not those you can see in Monsanto, and I never thought it would be possible.

Excellent idea. And you can start with becoming a Safaripal http://www.safaritalk.net/forum/303-safari-pals-here-to-help/

It will be a pleasure to go birding with you, and other ST’s,  when you come here, but to be a Safaripal requires another level of availability ;).

I´ve been a bit lazy so I had to force myself to wake up early las Sunday to go and try to keep on track with my goal pursuit, the best bet is always the Lezíria and even better is the EVOA, inside the Lezíria, an interpretation center where one has to pay to go inside the protected place with two lagoons and lots of birds, I only went there twice before, one of those times with @michael-ibk,and it did disappoint, I had 5 goals, got 3 of them, missed t2 ducks but got 2 bonus, so it was quite productive, it´s going to be difficult to get 5 new species in one day again until the end of the year.

First bird was before entering the EVOA.
