Worth the trip to Kunene. Lovely area. Palm Thrush, Cinderella Waxbill, and Angola Cave Chat.

Plus several others.

I should have been up there last month but now awaiting 2022. Fixed month as I want to see it 'green.

Alright.

If this shot does not enable identification I have other, more revealing, photos.

I hope you mean of birds!:P

I think we are looking at 'tinktinkies' here. It would be nice to use Galana's Law with those Rufous wings but that would not be correct so my opening shot will be more aural than visual and linked to the very appropriate Afrikaans name Rooitinktinkie.    C. Rufilatus (which is close to Galana's Law too.)

I did have to look that one up as I had no idea what a 'tinkinkie' was. Sadly (for you at least) this is not one of those

I know the feeling.

Your new bird vexes me. Very reminiscent of a Bunting with that Malar stripe.

Not enough head pattern to be anything definite and too many similar species in look alike poses. viz  that darn Grassbird looking every inch a Cisticola.

There again I saw lots of stripey headed sparrows on my trip to California and some are very variable.

Let me remove one from the many to shorten the odds.

USA and South West has Sparrows like this in Sibley.

Song Sparrow?

I'll suggest a Reed Bunting

@SoukousI am sorry but it is not a Reed Bunting.

@Galana I agree on the Song Sparrow photographed in California.

The facial markings suggest a Crested Malimbe, but the white bits on the wings throw me

@Galana This one could leave me red-faced if I get it wrong, but this is a black-billed barbet.

Well come on both of you, indeed all three, know the answer so who picks it up?

It IS a Red-faced Barbet so rubrifacies all round?

Seen in Rwanda's Kagera NP.

Very true.

I know how to pick a winner.

That got a response. So I am disallowing @mvecht's attempt to split into "Eastern". It is Kikuyensis and seen in Bwindi.

So by default it seems @inyathiwins the decider by being last.:o It is about right as he darn well new all along.

Over to you Rob.
