At Ladywalk, we also had a nice view of a Great Spotted Woodpecker (already posted)

@PeterHG  I still wouldn't do very well as it is a Very Little Deer!

@Dave Williams  thank you

We have been away (to Malaysia) and then I have begun working on those photos, but I have also been clearing out a few older photos from the UK this year, plus one from yesterday. But first some of the older ones.(I thought I would wait for better photos and then decided not to!)

As we reach 50, a few shots from yesterday afternoon. Light very poor, rain beginning to fall, taken through double glazed windows - it was very close. It gave us a bit of pleasure watching it in these times of gloom!

Malaysia

We were in Malaysia in February for about two and a half weeks (birds, mammals, food).

Our main birding destinations were:

Kualar Lumpur (KL) where we visited Lake Gardens which was in walking distance of our hotel

Fraser’s Hill which as the name suggests is a bit higher than the other spots at about 1500m so had a different collection of birds

Langkawi (an island off the west coast to the north of Peninsular Malaysia)

Penang (also an island off the west coast, but with a bridge to the mainland and the State of Kedah)

I wasn’t going to, but given the change in circumstances I will also write a short trip report at some stage (to show some interesting mammals). @Kitsafari was very helpful in terms of local guides, and seeing all the birds in her Big Year, and mammals in her trip reports was inspirational.

I have put Penang/Kedah because one you cross the bridge from Penang Island, part of the mainland is Penang State, and part is Kedah State. So we were on the mainland but I don't know which state for the different sites we visited. We spent half a day on the mainland with a guide.

What on earth is an Arctic Warbler doing in tropical Malaysia you may wonder (we did!). A fairly common migrant.

These have arrived in Malaysia relatively recently although already common in other parts of South East Asia.

A familiar bird from home -  and we assumed we would see it later in the year. But now, who knows.

I always enjoy watching them fly.
