TonyQ Big Year Number 5

Great start, and when doing the trip report, remember all us poor souls confined between four walls, and make it as long and as detailed as possible!

It is always great to see birds in other people's BY that I have never seen myself.

African birds look so much more colourful than UK birds and then Asian birds take it a step further.

Keep 'em coming.

and yes, I agree with Alex, a nice lengthy TR is essential.

Although we have seen this species many times before, I have never seen so many of them in one place. Interesting to see so many juveniles as well.

We had seen this species quite a few times at Frasers HIll, but I had found it really difficult to get a clear shot of a full bird. On our last evening we went to a small park about 200m from our hotel, and here they were much more cooperative.

What on earth is an Arctic Warbler doing in tropical Malaysia you may wonder (we did!). A fairly common migrant.

oh yea, very common here during migration season. Arctically tropical during winter.

seen and ticked. (:rolleyes:!!!)

lovely barbets! and such great shots. We didn't get to see the shrike at the hill, and we are very jealous of your black capped kingfisher in Langkawi. It's a hot favourite of Singapore bird photographers because of its striking beauty.

Can't wait for your TR as I want to know how Taman Negara and Penang went.

@TonyQ, my ignorance is on show again, I would never have considered Langkawi or Penang as anything other than a beach resort.Some really nice Birds there. Will be waiting for the report for all the details

@PeterHG @shazdwn @Peter Connan thank you

@elefromoz we were ignorant , but saw trip reports by @Kitsafari and @Whyone? for Langkawi including some fascinating and very cute mammals, and from @Kitsafari lots of birds. For Penang we did some birding but were also interested in the food!

@Kitsafari thank you. Wendy was very pleased to show us the Black-Capped Kingfisher and we really enjoyed it. I will do the trip report when I have posted the birds on this thread!

One of the good things about Bee-eaters (in addition to being beautiful and colourful) is there habit of returning to the same perch and sitting out in the open.
