Yesterday I went to one other favourite location: the pier of IJmuiden. Sahara dust prevented the sun from providing some warmth, but it was a pleasant walk all the same, albeit rather cold.

62 / NL 62. Ruddy Turnstone, IJmuiden 22/2. One of the most reliable locations to find them and they are quite confiding.

One species we had hoped to see in Zeeland, but was absent there. It stayed rather distant, but nice to find it here:

63 / NL 63. Horned (Slavonian) Grebe. IJmuiden 22/2

One other species we did see in Zeeland, but only scope views, so way too far to photograph. There were about 15 present here and one male came quite close.

64. NL 64. Common Scoter. IJmuiden, 22/2

At regular intervals groups of Common Scoters would fly by out at sea. Once or twice I could find its velvet cousin among them, recognizable by the white wing patches. EBC, I know, but I did mark the bird for you convenience...;)

Another bird that you can nearly always find at this spot:

66 / NL 66. Rock Pipit. IJmuiden 22/2

67 / NL 67. Purple Sandpiper. IJmuiden, 22/2. Only one present this time, but that was enough.

We were very happy with this one. It is not rare here, but mostly very distant. This one allowed better views and by adding the 2x converter, I could get some good shots.

Super shots, even with the 2x converter.

So what focal length does that give you?

300mm x2, so 600mm. Again x2 (crop factor Micro four-thirds) totals 1200mm FF equivalent.

One must have very solid base to keep 1200 mm still enough for such good results!

Great set of new pictures Peter.  The Diver is beautiful and it's nice to see a Scoter close up!

I steadied the lens by resting it on the telescope my friend had brought.  The stabilization of the camera is very good, but 1200mm handheld is a challenge.

so many lovely photos again. Fancy seeing everyone ice skating in one photo then in the next breath suggesting its good weather for windsurfing!
