98. Mangrove Blue Flycatcher, Pasir Ris Park

This rare resident was last seen six years ago, and the rare sightings in the years before were mostly on one of Singapore's little islands. Just recently, it popped up at a busy park in the eastern side of the main island. It's still there, probably enjoying the insects in a narrow strip of woods along a small river.

99. Common Kestrel, Marina East

The Common Kestrel is uncommon on our island. Indeed, it is a very rare migrant. But this particular kestrel loved the open areas near the Marina dam. it was hassled by crows for days, but finally one day, it was seen fighting back and chasing off the crows.

So rare, that i have to put up a few shots of it here.

and the 100th has to go to Himalayan Griffon, Pasir Ris Park

Because it is a very rare migrant and is on the IUCN's Near Threatened List. The last time the species was seen, a fairly large number of them descended on our island and some of them were seen in the busy crowded financial centre. We couldn't go to see them as we were then nursing our dog in his last legs.

This time, a few appeared. These migrants used to, a long time ago (about 40-50 years), make occasional stops in our country when the Chinese population used to put out food at burial grounds during the Ching Ming (tomb cleaning) festival as prayers to the dead ancestors. All those tombs have been dug up and the land has been replaced with high-rise expensive public housing. The griffons stopped coming. But recently the griffons have started to appear as land in Thailand is also being cleared with fewer dead animals in the open. Thailand has opened up a couple of feeding stations for the migrating vultures, but there isn't enough so some of them fly down searching for food, unfortunately, in vain in Singapore.

Thanks @xelas @Soukous @PeterHG @Zim Girl

One thing I don't understand is how Herman's photos appear so gigantic on the screen, but when you click the photo, the subsequent photo turns out normal size. i think it's got something to do with his setting, but we aren't sure what it is.
