195 (CR 154). Streaked Flycatcher. Macaw Lodge, Febr. There must be about 40 different flycatchers in CR, and we saw some 15 of them. This was a new one.

198 (CR 157). Blue-crowned Manakin. Macaw Lodge, Febr. Taken at the end of the day in the grounds of the lodge. Still managed a shot, fortunately and although it come close to a true EBC you can still see the blue crown.

Let's choose another iconic CR bird for number 200: the Scarlet Macaw. Mostly you are alerted to their presence by their loud, harsh calls. We were quietly having a cup of tea on the lodge's terrace, overlooking the pond, when a few birds flew past, to the excitement of a group of Taiwanese birders, who had just arrived. No better place to see them, of course,  than at the Macaw lodge....

A brilliant photo to reach 200, a beautiful bird.

I also really like the much less showy Yellow-bellied Flycatcher

201 (CR 160) . White-throated Crake. Macaw Lodge, Febr. Rather common in the lowlands, but rarely shows itself. The reason the eyes are obscured probably has to do with the fact that it realizes it's a wanted bird.

202 (CR 161) Scrub Euphonia. Macaw Lodge, Febr. Our guide was convinced this was the Scrub Euphonia as opposed to the very similar Spot-crowned Euphonia. The sound was decisive in the end.

203 (CR 162). Bay-headed Tanager. Macaw Lodge, Febr. The same morning walk with the lodge's guide. Quite distant but the only time I saw this handsome tanager.

204 (CR 163) Ferruginous Pygmy Owl. Macaw Lodge, Febr. Its call alerted the guide to the presence of this little owl and fortunately for us it was chased from its cover by some other birds and briefly showed itself.

205 (CR 164). Giant Cowbird. Macaw Lodge, Febr. Looks like a Grackle, but the eyes are reddish brown. Again, the only time we saw one.

206 (CR 165). Prothonotary Warbler. Macaw Lodge, Febr. A bright yellow migrant from Canada and the USA, not uncommon but quite hard to take a photo of, as it moves about continuously. In total we saw some 80 species at the lodge, so not a bad place to spend some days.

207 (CR 166). Stripe-throated Hermit. Selva Verde Lodge, January. Before moving on to Uvita, let's just add this hummer, already seen in the Sarapiqui area, but somehow omitted.
