On my monitor it's a white question mark on a blue background … not sure of the scientific name. :wacko:

Since you're running out of pics Jochen I thought maybe I should go for a really hard one :lol: but then I changed my mind a bit and decided to go for one that might be quite hard but not too hard, I think.

Looks like the woodland kingfishers I saw in the Mara-Serengeti but it has an all red bill. My guess is a mangrove kingfisher.

It's not perfectly positioned to see the shape of the tail :( but I'm pretty sure you're right.

Another nice photo, it took me a good while to work this one out, I’ve not been to the right part of Africa so I’ve never seen this bird but I’m pretty sure it’s a white-throated robin-chat Cossypha humeralis

Jochen I wonder if your first bird could be something like a white-crowned shrike as it looks like it’s the right shape for a shrike, have you tried brightening it with Photoshop or similar software? It may not improve the photo but it might reveal enough colour and detail to identify the bird. It’s amazing how what looks just like an entirely black silhouette can sometimes be transformed in to a brightly coloured bird. :)
