At the Andaman Hotel, we had a 4th floor room with a small balcony which looked out onto rainforest. It was very enjoyable watching birds from this viewpoint.

@Galana   there are also some very interesting mammals at the Andaman which I will show when I start a trip report!

But, I am breaking the flow of birds from Malaysia because of an exciting sighting from our garden.

Thursday night, we could hear a loud noise from the back of our house. We grabbed our cameras and went into the back garden. We could hear a male and female Tawny Owl calling to each other. Then on flew across and landed in a tree just past the end of our garden.

It was very dark, and this was my first "decent attempt" (the time stamp on the photos are wrong because I didn't change them after Malaysia!)

It waited for a long time, not bothered by us. We went inside and got a torch and tried some more photos

We stayed with it for about 20 minutes, and were thrilled with such a close sighting of such a wonderful bird. We would have been delighted anytime, but appreciated even more in the current Lockdown situation

Brilliant @TonyQ

we sometimes hear them in our garden but have not been lucky enough to see one. We put a nest box up this year, so fingers crossed!

Well done. At least if we cannot go to the birds it is nice when they come to us.

Bright, colouful, confiding and sits out in the open. It also appears very characterful. What's not to like!
