It's always so exciting to see wild dogs :D

Wild dogs at Ol Pejeta...

Far off in the distance, it was a sight for sore eyes. We wanted to see ONE wild dog as we had never seen them before...and here came 10! This was in Ol Pejeta Sanctuary with Porini Rhino Camp.

Note, not my video but spotted on Ol Pejeta's Facebook page here...

Hurrah! I finally have pictures to share. Not nearly as close up or fancy as the rest, but nonetheless: two wild dogs at Olkurruk, in the Mara. We were so lucky to come across these two while driving to visit the rangers up that way -- just tooling along in the LR when our guy in the back starts shouting "Olsuyen! Olsuyen!" and who should come trotting across our path but these two. Hung out and followed them for a while as they first harassed some zebras, then did some pretty picturesque posing in the shade of this tree.

@@africapurohit -- Very special indeed! I wonder how many wild dogs are currently in the Mara with some regularity -- no one seems to know, but I've seen two, biologists say they're extinct, and locals around Mararianda tell me 20. So...ten-ish?

Also, here's some amusing video of the dogs harassing zebras...until the zebbies have had enough.

I like the way the elands came in at the last moment and made sure the wild dogs went on their way. Excellent sighting.

The latest puppies from one of Selinda Reserve's 4 Wild Dog Dens this year (one also in the western part of Motswiri).

This was an incredible unique situation as a fracture in a number of packs caused 2 dens to have puppies almost 5 months late. This area must be one of the best places in Africa to see Wild Dog, certainly without any disturbance from other vehicles. We had this den completely to ourselves for 4 full days, not one other car visited. The region is perfect for there expansive hunting techniques and with an abundance of Impala make in an ideal habitat for them to thrive.

Not the finest photos ever. These were taken in Selous in November 2012 on our last day there and right at the end of the day so the light was falling rather fast, so these three are about the best. It was a pack of around 5 adults and 6 or 7 pups/ sub adults. Two of the adults had really bad limps which was rather worrying.
